November media log
-Kind of a packed month! It's crazy that it's been almost a full month since getting back from Palouse, time has just fucking flown. That being said this post really has made me think "damn, i kinda do experience a lot of media in a month!"

Still reading Everything for Everyone with Cassidy.

I looked over June & Taylor's entire massive beautiful bookshelf once I got there and ended up meandering through the first section of Eula Biss' Having and Being Had; plus June's article for last year's Are.na Annual. I read a whole bunch of zines there too :^)
Picked up Deep Wheel Orcadia again and got through to part 3, still such an extremely beautiful book.
Did my classic intermittent glance at LeGuin's Tao te Ching and got #81, which opens with "True words aren't charming, charming words aren't true."
blogs n' websites

Can't believe I forgot to call out Weird Web October last month! Really cool and delightful glimpse into what websites can be like, pretty inspiring stuff.

There was this nice quote from one of Margaret Killjoy's recent newsletters:
- "Perhaps most tangibly, what we do in the next few months and years will impact how we ourselves manage to navigate the hard times ahead. A therapist friend of mine reiterates to me all the time that acting with agency is the primary way to avoid being traumatized by negative experiences. Whether you win or lose, the act of fighting is enough to help our brains process what has happened." -
I'm working through my cohost export in fits and starts, but the folder with all my asks got this brilliant answer from Sarah Zedig: Queer Wish-Fulfillment and Parent Death in Steven Universe. It was great to re-read, it's a great read :^)
Reblog of a reblog from adam le doux: Against the Dark Forest. Much to think about! Sent me on a spidery network exploration moment.
-
Jamie Paige's blog post series going through each song from her recent album Constant Companions, really cool behind the scenes stuff with lots of little demos and isolated snippets.
music???
This is a gotcha moment, go read my blog post about Music!
"podcasts"
That's right, getting crazy with the categories this month. I "finished" Homestuck Made this World (haven't listened to the epilogues episode yet because I'd like to actually read the epilogues since I never finished them. Loaded the unofficial epub on my ereader!). I started listening back in.... May! Wow. Incredible. I had a dream that they were talking about Homestuck in the discord so then I made my dream a reality which started a conversation w/ Elise about how she'd never read it but had listened through the whole podcast. It's been fun checking in with her periodically about it and also just... re-experiencing Homestuck! Lots and lots and lots of feelings and thoughts (especially about Terezi...) but also I was very pleased by the shape and form of the podcast. Would recommend!
movies & tv & anime & sigh.. youtube videos
-
Taylor was able to finally push me over the edge to start watching Station Eleven after literally many years of hearing how good it is and surprise, it's extremely good! Olivia and I tried our best to take it slow but fucking HELL probably actually nothing has ever gripped my attention so completely. It was great, it was so great, I can't wait to get into the book (even though yeah yeah yeah I know it's different.)
-
June & Taylor also showed me the two early episodes of Joe Pera Talks to You and it was a very moving experience! So Olivia and I have started it and are watching one episode a night as a pre-bedtime come down.
-
Olivia and Comstock and I watched Catherine Called Birdy and it was actually a lot of fun! silly dorky fun :^)
-
We tried watching PEN15 back in like.. 2017 I think but it was too cringe and we had to stop. Something made us revist it and we watched through season 1. It's been weirdly healing for me, doing some self-compassion for my middle school self.
-
Two huge anime accomplishments: Nel and I finished Azumanga Diaoh which we started at like, the start of the year. We've been alternating episodes with Lucky Star, which we'll finish the next time we hang out. I loved Azumanga so much, aaaaaaaaaaa.
I also finally finished Bocchi the Rock, which I started spring of last year. It was great! really heart-warming and so cute. I'm still working on learning the guitar! -
Olivia and I also watched The Family Stone (our third watch) and Meet me in St. Louis (our first watch). It's fucking xmas time baby B^)
Ok this is so stupid that I'm adding youtube videos to this category or this blog post series at all but whatever, here's an 8 ½ hr cozy Super Mario 64 stream VOD and an hour long cut-up let's play of "Super Fractal World". I watched several of the recent Leadhead videos and this phenomenal 1-star review of Slay The Princess and hey! hazel unprivated her old video on Azumanga Daioh! Lol, lmao.
games
-
At the SEATAC airport (after having a big huge cry in the private family bathroom bc I tried to order a boba and they were out of boba :'^( and all my pent-up feelings just totally boiled over) I posted up in an almost empty gate and started playing CRYPT WORLD: GOLD. Delightful! Piss! it was very engrossing and almost made me late for my flight bc I didn't want to stop. The only Videogame!
after the realization about the copy of Earthbound on the cart Ellie is lending me (and the imminent switch to my 2025 hobonichi) that I talked about last month, I decided to just start Mother and am actually really enjoying it so far! All the quirk without any of the years of baggage around feeling an obligation to play.
I feel like I've been thinking a lot about other games, but haven't actually played any. I thought there was another bullet point to add here, but there isn't :P
Damn, that's it!
